Maddening habits

Jan 13, 2010 under Weekly meme, family | 3 Comments

I had the most annoying habit of checking on my husband’s cell phone. It was the habit that caused a quarrel years back and the same habit that got me mad as a hornet two years ago.

Here’s the story. In the early years of our marriage, I would screen every single text message sent and received by his cell phone. If I come across a nameless sender or a name that is not familiar to me or someone who does not belong to our circle, I would confront him right away and ask him irrelevant to senseless questions about the ‘sender’. I won’t stop until he satisfies my curiosity. In one of our arguments, I got him really mad that he threw his cell phone so hard hitting our bedroom wall and shatter it to pieces. Do you think the incident has stopped me or changed my nosiness? Not a bit. I still check from time to time, but I never ask any question to avoid suspicion that I’m at it again.

My nosiness fires back at me. I was into my regular ‘checking mode’ when I discover this message from her girl friend. The text goes something like “Hi baby…she was sorry for something chuva”. I was mad that I thought there was something going on between them. He made me realized that the ‘baby’ was just a term of endearment not just to my husband but to her other friends as well.

What did I learn from the experience? Not to get caught when snooping around and if something bothers you (from checking) and you are itching to ask him right away, ask him in a nice and low-toned manner (believe me it works). But sometimes the old wives tale-cum adage ‘what you don’t know won’t hurt you’ holds true for wives who distrust their husband.

Despite my still unfounded assumption of womanizing chuvalu, I guess I will have to live with this green-eyed monster ready to attack anytime, for a long time. I just have to teach it to be tamer when provoked to avoid an imminent World War III from erupting.

A maddening habit, isn’t it? How about you, is there anything that you wish to share? How about an incident that made you really angry with your spouse? Care to share at Couple’s Corner?

He only had eyes for me

So do you really want to know how I met Mr. T?

We are but one in 10 or so couples who met and fall in love while working at PJI.  I was covering the health beat at the time and Mr. T was a computer technician at the MIS department. During those days when email is not yet ‘uso’ or implemented by the management we send our stories through phone via dictation, fax or BBS (Bulletin Board System) where you can post messages and send digital file.

Papi at work
Me at work

I just made my connection to BBS (using my old monochrome laptop) when someone sent me a message. I don’t remember the exact words all I remember was we were already exchanging pleasantries (nagbobolahan daw). The guy turned out to be Mr. T. The lanky guy was no stranger to me since we were actually bumping into each other at the corridor or at the cafeteria from time to time, but we don’t know each other’s name. Although he admitted to me later that he was admiring me for afar. He said he knew that I am the girl for him the moment he laid eyes on me (naks).

Should I say we hit it off immediately?…. I would like to tell more about Mr. T and I, but that juicy chapter of our love story will have to wait until next week for our theme, “we’re in-love”.

Couple’s Corner: Meet Mr. and Mrs. T

Oct 15, 2009 under Weekly meme | 9 Comments

Hi everyone. It’s finally here. Time to meet Mr. and Mrs. T. Of course many of you already knew a lot of things about me and seen some photos of my hubby in my previous memes. This meme of course is different from any of them since it discusses the romantic angle of our life as couple. Up every Wednesday, this romantic meme called Couple’s Corner is the brainchild of Liz of Rodliz’s Nest. Good job Liz. And so you’ll be expecting more of Mr. and Mrs. T every Wednesday then. So here it goes…

I’m Yami. I was born and raised in Bayanan, Muntinlupa. Eldest of two sisters. I’m your average girl who enjoys simple things in life. I graduated at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Landed a job in a newspaper. I did not make it big as in big like Ceres Doyo of PDI, but at least some of my contribution were also cited by distinguished organizations for their value. Thanks to my editor who were very good and supportive of me.

Love life? It’s not that colorful but can be a good piece in a soap opera. Until I met this wonderful guy…

Neru hails from General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines. This guy has a lot to offer. He’s definitely the most hard-working guy I’ve seen in my life. He’s got the brains and a big heart to boot. He supported his college studies by serving as janitor in the company where he is currently serving as one of the managers. The same company where we met…I’ll keep you hanging at this point for that cute part of our love story will be discussed for next week’s theme - “First time we met/dined out”.

Incidentally my husband is celebrating his nth birthday today.

Happy Birthday, Hon. Stay as wonderful person as you are.
