Mommy Moments: Talented kids

mommy moments

I’m a little excited to post the latest drawings of my daughter which I will be sharing for our Mommy Moments this week. The theme is about ‘talented kids’.

I never realized my daughter will be so interested in sketching. As far as I can remember it was her brother who can draw well as a toddler. When he started going to school he can draw miniature stick drawing complete with bubble dialogue and form it into comic strips. But his interest in drawing diminishes as he gets older. Now its her Ate who is showing more passion for art. I hope you still remember some of her drawings that I posted here.

My boy is into DIY craft and foldabots assembly. When he got tired of watching TV or playing online games, he would make himself busy doing some paper mask made with paper plate, art papers, colored strings and a little of this guy’s imagination.

(Pardon the poor quality of pictures as I’m using a camera cellphone.)

Does she looks like Bella Swan?

Mommy Moments: Name Game (or the story behind my kids’ name.

Aug 27, 2009 under Uncategorized | 21 Comments

Another interesting theme at Mommy Moments this week, every mommies will be sharing the story behind their kids’ name. I’m glad and proud to share mine today.

Our first born is now 12 years old.

In the fifth or sixth month of my pregnancy, we already knew that we are expecting a baby girl. Thanks to the inventor of ultrasound. Then comes the mind-boggling task of thinking a name for the new member of the family. I had this pregnancy booklet given my by OB-Gyne where I refer for baby names.

Abigael, Audrey, Naomi, Madison, Madeline, Mallory, Sophia, Erin Asha and Sue Erin are some of the names that we consider. We both agree in choosing Naomi (pronounced as Nay-oh-mee) over the other names.

Naomi is a Hebrew name for a girl which means pleasant, delightful or beautiful. It is also a character in the Bible. Well, my daughter is growing up to be one. She is not only beautiful but also possesses a pleasant or amiable attitude.

Our second child is 10

For our second child, we consider the names Patrick, Nathan, Nathaniel, Zachary, and Juan Miguel to name a few. There’s not much to share about how we end up with Khalil’s name except that it’s not a common name during those time.

Khalil is an Arabic name which means friend. Khalil is indeed a friendly boy. I remember him to be always smiling as a little boy. He never threw tantrums even when he is sick.

Well, the only memorable anecdote that I can share about my bunso is the moment when I found out that our second child is going to be a boy. I was ecstatic when I stepped out of the hospital (where I had my nth ultrasound) and immediately call up my husband to share the good news.

That’s all I can share with you for now. More stories are found at Mommy Moments.

Extended family members are a big help to me especially when I’m still working. My mother who lives with us looks after my young kids while she is being assisted by our house help whom we treat as family member. My Tita and her family shower my kids with so much affection especially my eldest who happens to be the first niece and grandchild on my side of the family. Every gathering brings out a lot of memorable things for all of us.

Mommy Moments: Messy eater(s)

I think its but normal for some young children who no longer wear bibs while eating to wipe off the mess on their mouth and chin with their shirt like in the case of Khalil (not this photo). Look at the dripping ‘taho’ on his chin.

Naomi and Khalil share taho for snack.

He was more than two in this photo. He drools every time he eats candy or lollipop. It makes his cheeks and hands really sticky. The fun part of it was I would urge him to kiss his Ate with all his messy pouting lips sending the big girl to run shrieking.

Mommy Moments: First Steps or First Milestone

Jul 23, 2009 under Uncategorized | 26 Comments

IT’S difficult to look for my kids’ firsts. There are plenty of pics to choose from and so little time to post. I’ve decided to just pick these two. I don’t know if this will qualify for this week’s MM theme. Anyway, these are my daughter’s picture when she graduated in preschool and in Grade VI last March. I consider these to be my daughter’s milestone as a student. I hope to post more.

How time flies…

Naomi with her classmate. Kinder 2 graduation ceremony.
Naomi receiving diploma from the school owner.

I must admit I cried before the ceremony started. I couldn’t believe my little baby is all grown up and Mommy is getting older. :-)

Hope you enjoy my post this week even if its not the literal first step and first milestone in a kid’s development (please consider, Chris). More enjoyable MM entries are found here.

Mommy Moments: Playing time

Jul 15, 2009 under Uncategorized | 21 Comments

A young technician at seven years old. He seems playing with our VHS player, but he was literally cleaning the head of the VHS player as it does not play clear videos. He was watching a cartoon (I think) based on the background music. Visit Mommy Chris’ site for more of this week’s Mommy Moments.

Don’t mess with me!
Baby Naomi just woke up from a bad dream. Nah. Mommy just failed to put a baby hair clip on Naomi’s thin brown hair.

Mommy Moments: Encounter with Pets or Animals

We always look forward to join field trips every school year especially when the itinerary includes museum as one of the places to be visited.

Our most memorable trip was the tour at the UPLB Museum of Natural History in Los Banos, Laguna, where we saw preserved biological and zooligal specimens like the stuffed owl below.

Khalil reminds me of Harry Potter in this photo. Harry has an owl pet named Hedwig.
Various preserved snake eggs.
I’m not sure if these are stuffed cows.

Mommy Moments: Outdoor Fun

SWIMMING is one of the few outdoor activities that my family enjoys every summer. It’s a get-together of sort with my sister’s family. Taken during the summer of 2007. Let other mommies share with you their ‘outdoor fun’ at Mommy Moments.
