Christmas ornaments on a budget

christmas lights

Our home may be the simplest in the neighborhood when it comes to Christmas decorations. We have been using the same decorations for several Christmases now. We don’t buy new ones but maximize the ones that are still usable like the Christmas lights we have here. We also have our mini “Belen” atop the entertainment cabinet.

This year, I would like to request the kids to help me decorate our humble home with available scrap materials I’ve been saving. I have lots of folders from press kits and empty small jars. They can be converted to colorful ornaments. I just hope the kids would grant my request.

How about you, did you put up your Christmas decorations already?

DIY For Halloween without Spending Much

Halloween is just around the corner and a lot of kids are already getting excited with the prospect that they are going to do new projects. The materials sometimes used for DIY projects can be expensive though. Choosing the right project to do that will be enjoyed by kids will be the best thing that you can do.

DIY Door Decoration

This is a fun and easy project to make and the good part is that the materials that you need are inexpensive. Here are the things that you will need for this project:

  • Marker
  • Paper Plates
  • White Crepe Paper
  • Scissors
  • Scotch Tape or Masking Tape

decorSince doors should also be decorated so that children will also feel the excitement of the upcoming Halloween event, the door can be decorated like a ghost. The first thing that you have to do is create an outline of a ghost using a white crepe paper. Once you have already done this, you can then instruct the kids to draw eyes on the paper plates using the black marker. The type of eyes that can be drawn will depend on your preference. You can also use the paper plate to make the ghost’s mouth.

This is an easy project that you can do with kids and will look great on your door. After the Halloween season, it can be easy to remove the decorations already provided that you will do it again the year after, probably with a different character in mind or a decorated kids ATVs, next time?

Contemporary light fixtures

We all want to spice up and change our decor every now and then. New seasons bring new feelings and new trends. But for many people, it just isn’t possible to renovate and change things every time the urge strikes.

Thankfully there are ways for you to change the look of a room without having to completely change everything in it. Using a piece of decor as a focal point in the room will draw the eye to it and set the tone.

If you are looking for a way to bring your home up into the modern times, then contemporary light fixtures might be a great choice for you. These pieces are often done in bright metallic and chrome finishes, giving the whole room a more modern and industrial feel.

Want to make your room feel a little bit more homey and classic? An area rug can give you the feel you need to be satisfied with your sitting room. Antique style area rugs are often done in shades of red and gold, and they can add warmth and depth to any room.

To add a little whimsy and imagination to your home decor, you need look no further than your windows. Many companies are beginning to sell window films that look like stained glass. These films fit easily to the window and are sealed in with heat to form a perfect fit. They are easily removable and can add a little color and light to an otherwise drab room.
