Almost tempted

Would you believe I have samples of diet and health supplement at home but I never dare tried any of them even if they are BFAD approved? I have nothing against supplements in fact I take my vits daily and they are food supplements right? But if I have a choice I would prefer eating fresh fruits and vegetables than taking supplements. But since I can’t cook vegetables all the time or buy fresh fruits in a whim, I take vitamins to complement the nourishment that I don’t get from my daily food intake.

Talking about supplements, I had a not so good experience with writing about supplements in the past. I mistook the name of the branded food supplement as generic name for a food supplement product in question. The company demanded a retraction on my part. Since it was an honest mistake and does not really intended to malign the product, I air their side and all went well. They even gave me a sample of the said food supplement. I accepted the product but never really tried it. In fact, I gave the sample to one of my editors. If the incident happens now, at least I have a choice between writing about them and writing a nuphedragen review.

Hair and scalp damage

May 1, 2010 under Health | No Comment Yet

It happened to me in my early 20’s and could happen to you if you are not careful.

I have a natural straight hair but I want a different look. I had my hair professionally permed in a saloon to give it a full body look. But the result was not satisfying. I end up having my hair straightened again two weeks after the first hair treatment. The outcome was a disaster.

I felt a tingling sensation on my scalp and my hair started to thin. My scalp becomes visible and I need to resort to hairspray and sport a shorter hair to cover the thinning, but the chemical on the hairspray aggravate the burning and itchy sensation on my scalp.

I never tried using hair loss prevention remedy except for taking vitamin B complex recommended by our company doctor. Somebody recommended fresh Aloe Vera (Sabila) plant to help hair grow. I religiously applied and massage Aloe Vera extract or pulp directly onto my scalp. I’m not sure if it really works but each time I used it, the itchiness and pain lessen.

I took more than a year before my scalp fully recovers from the trauma of hair treatment. I’ve learned my lesson and never tried anything that would damage my scalp again.

High school reunion

A schoolmate has organized another reunion for our batch in high school. She even reminded me about it when she greeted me on my birthday. The first meet-up occurred last year, but only a handful of our batch mates showed up. I wish to join them this time. But I can’t commit because of an impending job.

The reason why I’m not fond of attending reunions is that I’m not confident to meet with former classmates now. If only I can take a diet pill that works overnight, I might have the confidence to meet them again. After all, 23 years is such a long time. We have a lot things to talk about including our family or current job. I’m sure the popular topic for discussions will center on being a mom and raising kids. :)

They love lasagna

May 1, 2010 under Food, Health, family | 3 Comments

Have you seen what the Marce Club gave me on my birthday? Chocolate cake and baked lasagna from Red Ribbon! What a perfect treat to celebrate my birthday.

Thank you marces!

The meal arrived just in time for snack. The kids love lasagna so they are excited to get their share. Since it’s my birthday, its a sort of tradition on my family to give something that I cooked or bought to my relatives, so I gave my mother and SIL each a slice of lasagna. I’m fortunate to have tasted one third of the slice. Otherwise, my son would have taken my entire share. waah!

Without the carbohydrate-laden lasagna I don’t think I would look for the best diet pills for women. I can’t pig out on cake either because kids and hubby are there to remind me to slow down. :D

Enrolment woes

May 1, 2010 under Kids, Miscellaneous | No Comment Yet

Opening of classes is the time of the year when parents normally get excited and apprehensive at the same time. They get excited because their kids will be entering a new phase in their lives as a student. They feel anxious if there are reports of tuition hike and increase in prices of school supplies. All these things happen beyond are control. So in instances that an additional financial support is needed, some parents resort to using their prepaid visa. In our case, if push comes to shove we’ll just have to use our credit card. (Like what I wrote in my previous posts we maintain the card for emergency purposes only.)

Birthday lunch

May 1, 2010 under Event, Food, Health, family | No Comment Yet

I don’t cook anything special on my birthday. I just prepare fried chicken for lunch as it was requested by my kids. And with hubby’s prodding he bought an ice cream and soda for our dessert. I should have cooked something special like beef calderetta, but hubby said it may take hours to prepare. So I end up marinating five pieces of Chicken thighs with calamansi juice, fish sauce, pepper and food seasoning. The kids thought I ordered it from Max’s. Ok, I fabricate that part. LOL. After a sumptuous lunch, I recall top diet pills that I read somewhere because I felt guilty after consuming more than a cup of rice (or was it two cups). More rice intake means additional fat on the belly. It’s difficult to trim down that part unless I exercise.
