Safety at home
Nobody is safe these days. I don’t want to sound pessimistic. This is just to caution you to keep your home safe from burglars. I don’t want you to experience what my family went through in 2005. If not for the quick-responding Barangay Tanod (watchmen) in our neighborhood the three unidentified robbers could have robbed our home. The burglars have successfully taken out a portion of the broken glass pane in the living/kitchen area. They got hold of the scanner and were trying to take it out from the window, but roving watchmen shouted at them. The robbers scampered away empty-handed.
Even if the robbery was foiled we still keep an eye on suspicious-looking person in our area. And just to be safe, we have changed the transparent window panel to opaque glass so no one can see the activity from inside.
Here are the following safety tips at home. This information was disseminated by our Barangay officials last year.
When inside your home:
- Keep all doors and windows locked, even if you are just going out “for a minute”.
- Install dead-bolt locks on all doors.
- Don’t give maids, babysitters, or other working in your home access to your home keys or alarm codes.
- Re-key or change all locks when moving into a new home.
- List only your last name and initials on your mailbox or in a phone directory.
- Don’t give your name, phone number or whereabouts on your answering machine message. Never say you aren’t home. Just ask the caller to leave a message.
- Consider installing home security systems that provide monitoring for burglary, fire, and medical emergencies.
- Leave outside lights on after dark or have outside lights controlled by motion detector.
- Keep drapes or blinds partially open during the day.
- Never dress in front of windows. Always close the drapes or blinds.
- Know your neighbors and keep their phone numbers handy.
- Have a friend or neighbor check on you daily if you are home alone.
- Try never to be alone in the laundry room or any other common area in an apartment building.
- Call the police on 117 if you hear or see something suspicious.
- Don’t take direct action yourself. An officer will be dispatched to your address even if you cannot speak or hang up.
(This is a partial list of safety at home tips. I will share the remaining tips next time.)
Businesses that thrive during election time
Election time is definitely a good season for venturing into business – be it in printing, designing, or any other things.
Businessmen could attest to the fact that production and sales of banners, streamers, posters, flyers, stickers, key chains, t-shirts, caps, fans, and pens are high during election season.
Candidates can choose from a wide variety of promotional items that suit their taste, need and, of course, budget.
If I have an ample budget right now, I would like to establish my own company particularly making campaign paraphernalia with my husband at the helm. He can do the layout (if we are to print banners, posters and the like) while I can try conceptualizing catchy phrases or lines for imprint on caps, fans, etc.
I know a candidate from the south with a unique idea for campaign paraphernalia. He distributes apple with personalized stickers on it during his campaign sortie.
But the age-old campaign materials such as billboard, streamers, and t-shirts remain a hit in campaign propaganda.
Jealous lover
It’s difficult to describe oneself as a lover. I took a love quiz for fun and the result will give you an ‘idea’ of what kind of lover I am. Here’s the result:
You are a caring, kind, and selfless partner.
Unsurprisingly, your love style is the rarest.
You are willing to sacrifice your world for your sweetie.
Except it doesn’t really feel like sacrifice to you.
For you, nothing feels better than giving to the one you love.
My husband can only attest to the reliability of the love quiz. But as far as I’m concerned I’m the jealous type of a lover. Never go near my love (you’ll sense when some girls are up to something flirtatious) or you’ll end up flashing dark circles in your eyes. That’s a half-meant joke! LOL.

Breakfast in bed
I haven’t experienced that kind of queenly treatment from my husband, lately. But I do get the royal treatment when I’m sick and the first few hours after I gave birth to the children. He would literally feed me or let me drink water when I can’t even sit up to eat on my own. He offers medicine and reminds me when it’s time to take them. But sometimes he gets too panicky that he would like me to wear a finger pulse oximeter just to be sure that I feel fine. He would assist me to the comfort room to do my ritual when I’m too dizzy to wash up. I felt like a small child being attended to by a doting father (one that I don’t grow up with).
He is not the sweet type of person but has his own discreet way of showing his undying love for me tehee. He makes his presence felt when I need him. He shows what kind of a man and husband that he truly is. Sometimes it feels good when I’m a little under the weather (I don’t wish to be sick though) because I can make little requests here and there from him which he pays attention to. Even when I’m not sick, hubby treats me like a queen. I’m sure many of you can relate to this. My better half helps around the house and sometimes literally takes charge of the things I’m supposed to be doing at home. Isn’t he the sweetest husband around? I can have my way if I want to but I don’t want him to feel that somebody is abusing the kindness of someone. Breakfast in bed? Hmm I’m thinking of giving him one today.
How about you, how often do you or your husband serve your breakfast in bed? Share it with us at Marce Liz’s Couple’s Corner.
