Family Emergency Preparedness Food Checklist

Have you had this panic attack every time you read or heard about the earthquake which experts said could strike and isolate Metro Manila? I do. While the family discussed about this in passing, we don’t have a solid plan yet on what to prepare or do when earthquake happens. I told the kids that wherever they may be when earthquake hits the area they should try not to panic and protect themselves (and please try to reach home safe).

Department of Health Photo: There is a high risk of malnutrition during emergencies like typhoons. What should be in your emergency food stock list to prevent this from happening to you and your family? (Please click on image to enlarge.)

Useful information about emergency preparedness suggests that a family secure a food checklist. The 72-hour emergency kit includes non-perishable goods, medicine, among others, but the food checklist includes a variety of non-perishable and nutritious goods enough to sustain a family for a few days.

Please check on the picture above to find out the necessary goods to stock at home in preparation for emergency situation.

Repost from my other blog:

A special kind of gift

hair cut

This holiday season try to make a different kind of gift to someone you don’t know. How about donating a portion of your hair to an organization that produces wig for cancer patients? This may sound new to you. But hair donation has been going on for years now. I’ve mention in my other blog that a friend has donated several inches of her hair for a good cause. She said it is her little way of helping patients needing them. She urges everyone to follow the same. She said those who wish to donate their hair but timid to cut their hair short may wear ultimate looks wigs until they grow back. For someone who lost a loved one to cancer, my friend said hair donation means so much  to cancer patients.

Things you can do with scrap items at home

I so love this post written by my son three years ago. I told him to write something for this blog and came up with this short but interesting article about recycling.

You can create scrap materials into art project using some materials that are not much needed. You can also visit websites for ideas if you want to create the simplest to the fun art projects. With creativity, you can turn the materials you don’t need into the most unique items like birthday invitations, boxes, puppets and other environment friendly accessories such as key chains that are decorated with several art/scrap materials.

Kids who are creative enough can even make something out of plastic spoons like spoon puppets, and much, much more. Brooches and pins are the best examples that you can create through materials you don’t need with the supervision of an adult.
