Both father and son were busy cutting out campaign materials for the Pupil Government Organization (PGO). I wasn’t able to help them because I was busy doing a write up on 5th wheel warranty or service plan for trailers around that time.

Khalil did not win the election, but its okay with him. He had fun distributing these colorful hand-outs to his schoolmates during the campaign.

A child’s thought on environment protection

Last school year, my son’s 4th grade class was assigned by their teacher to draw something about preserving the environment and write a paragraph about their drawing. My son submitted this simple drawing, but I feel proud of what he wrote to describe the important points of his drawing.

He is only 10 and yet he is aware of what people can do to take care of the environment such as avoid illegal logging and incessant use of fishnet to catch small fish. My son could even mention about recycling in his essay. For example, to donate or sell used books so other students can still use them and lessen the number of trees being cut down to produce paper…Khalil scored 10 points each for the drawing and essay. Ten is the highest point given by their teacher for the assignment.

Have you prepared all your kids’ school supplies, uniforms and snacks? Make sure they sleep early tonight to avoid being late on the first day of school.

In my case, I can’t promise to sleep early tonight and the succeeding nights you probably know why. I still have three more weeks to stay up late…I’m looking forward to June 27!

Supportive mommy as ever. This was taken on Nov. 18, 2005. We just watched “The Emperor’s New Clothes” presented by the Repertory Philippines. The play was held at the Greenbelt Mall 1 in Makati City. It was one of the places we went to during the school field trip.

Shop for bags

Kids are requesting me to buy them new bags. They have been using their school bags for three consecutive years. The bags may look old because of the wear and tear, but I believe they can still be useful for two more years. Last March, hubby and I have planned to buy a replacement for their old school bags. It will be their reward for doing well in school. Ate, my eldest got high grades in her report card, my youngest received three certificates for two writing competition and drawing contests he participated in last year.

I’m thinking of buying the bags through online store because I have no time to leave for the mall to shop. I’m following a strict schedule as far as my home-based job is concerned. Remember these toys?

These are the same toys that I’ve already placed inside a sack and plastic bags last October. I made a post about it here. My kids have planned to sell them to the kids in the neighborhood. They were supposed to raise their own money for Christmas. But for unknown reason, the mini garage sale did not push through. Some of these toys are bought cheap, but they are memorable to them and to me. I still have second thoughts of letting these toys go…This year, I’m planning to donate them to orphanage as friends have suggested… I hope to make children in the institution happy even for a little while…

Sign of maturity

We went to the mall the other night to buy some school supplies. While we were heading to the school supply section, the kids instantly pull their own cart and went separate directions to get the stuff that they need. They have their own initiative now unlike last year when I have to decide what design or color of notebooks they will get for themselves. My kids have matured a bit. That’s something to be proud of.

Without any pressure from them (the drama of choosy shoppers ) we were able to finish shopping in no time. When we arrived home, my son couldn’t wait to open the shopping bags to check what he got for himself. He used the box cutter instead of scissor to untie the plastic bags. Good thing the blade is no longer that sharp. My kids can do things on their own if they want to, I wish they continue to be more responsible and mature kids.

Enrolment woes

Opening of classes is the time of the year when parents normally get excited and apprehensive at the same time. They get excited because their kids will be entering a new phase in their lives as a student. They feel anxious if there are reports of tuition hike and increase in prices of school supplies. All these things happen beyond are control. So in instances that an additional financial support is needed, some parents resort to using their prepaid visa. In our case, if push comes to shove we’ll just have to use our credit card. (Like what I wrote in my previous posts we maintain the card for emergency purposes only.)

Household chores

What is the proper age to teach kids household chores? This question crop up when hubby and I are having a small talk about our kids. He said giving kids chores to do at an early age will help them become responsible individuals when they grow up. Age appropriate chores such as washing the dishes, sweeping the floor, and folding clean clothes are too basic chores to learn. Recently, hubby began assigning our kids to wash the dishes alternately; one at noon, and the other one in the evening. Even when they are complaining about the number of dishes they wash, we see to it that they finish the task assigned to them. I still wash the heavy stuff.

We try to inculcate in them the value of helping everyone at home. When they are a little older we will teach them to wash their own clothes. Simple task like these prepares them for real jobs in the future. I wonder if any of my kids will be in the sales jobs? Whatever the future holds for them, we’ll be there to support them.

MYM – Yellow flower

I’m so proud and happy that a lot of friends take notice of my daughter’s color painting. Aside from landscape she also draws human faces too. I will share her recent drawing in my next post.

Some of my friends are wondering if my daughter had attended art classes before. I told them she has yet to attend one. My daughter learns to draw and paint on her own. She reads art books and research for reference photos as often as she can.

Another friend is encouraging her to join contest to hone her talent and give her more confidence in herself and her abilities.

Thanks to all of you who appreciate my daughter’s talent.
