Not only would you have to be a teacher and a tutor at the same time, a peace-maker and a diplomat even when you wanted to have a well-deserved breakdown or throw a fit of your own. You also have to be a walking convenience store with loads of magic, which could include candies or chocolates or a few tiny toy soldiers or a bubble machine, up on your sleeves, to keep the kiddos entertained during long travels. Apart from that, you also need to be up on your toes keeping them safe all the time making sure they never bump into anything hard or slip into something while playing like there’s no tomorrow in the living room. And do not forget, you have to be on your guard all the time taking those <a style="color:grey;"cleaner jobs as seriously as you can cleaning up after them.

You can also visit websites for ideas if you want to create the simplest to the fun art projects. With creativity, you can turn the materials you don’t need into the most unique items like eco baby shower invitations, boxes, puppets and other environment friendly accessories such as key chains that are decorated with several art/scrap materials.

Kids who are creative enough can even make something out of plastic spoons like spoon puppets, and much, much more. Brooches and pins are the best examples that you can create through materials you don’t need with the supervision of an adult.

The kids will be going home today after five days of confinement. They are on their way to full recovery from dengue infection. My son and daughter’s platelet count as of this morning (Feb. 23) has increased to 220, a good sign that both are recovering well and have passed the critical stage of dengue fever. The doctor has given them a clean bill of health and are allowed to go home today. But she still warns the kids not to engage in stressful activities like playing (and bickering!). They need a few more days of rest before they can go back to school. They have a lot of catching up to do with their school lessons so they need to save their energy.

My kids have surpassed another sickness and we are grateful that they did not reach that life-threatening stage of dengue fever. Although, their hospitalization has exhausted our meager resources, I believe there are more reasons to be thankful for and I know things will be much better for us in the days to come.

My son used to collect stickers – Disney and Anime stickers, label stickers, small and big stickers, and even tattoo stickers. Sometimes he brought his mini collection to school without my knowledge. He said some of his classmates asked him for stickers, but he said they can only have the stickers if they pay for them. Business minded huh? So he sold a few pieces of his stickers for P5 (just a few cents) and then replenish his collection by buying from a nearby store. I don’t have worries about his tattoo sticker collection and there’s no need to look for information on how to remove tattoos because they can be removed easily on any surface.

I think I have saved some of his stickers, but I forgot where I hid it.

Ask any child what he likes for Christmas and he would surely go for toys. I have two kids who grew up loving every toy given to them. Some of their toys are still with us, some I shared to the kids in the neighborhood or friends. I have young niece and nephews who would surely be delighted to receive some of those toys this Christmas.

If you’re also planning to buy toys for your own kids and godchildren please be aware of the kind of toys you will give them. Just be careful not to pick up toys that may contain lead-based paint which are harmful to health. Only lead test kits can verify the presence of lead in toys. The kit contains lead test swabs that instantly alerts consumers to the presence of lead in consumer products. I’m not sure if there are available lead test kits locally, but you can check the links in my post to find out.

Remember my post about my son’s request for a Halloween costume for the school play? I might really look for Awesome Halloween Costumes this time as he won’t stop bugging me until I get him what he wants. I wish I can find something at the thrift shop or the second-hand store that we regularly visit.

I’m not really sure what character my son will portray I have yet to ask him. But if he is interested I can make a personalized costume for him and still save on expenses. With old clothes from the cabinet and colorful paints that are safe for kids, I can come up with a zombie costume. I could make my son look like one too with the help of a video tutorial on how to make zombie make up. He would surely stand out, I mean look scary, if I get the right color mixture and effect that I want to create for a zombie character.

Here’s what you need if you want to create a zombie effect. Prepare the following – tissue paper, liquid latex (or the regular white school glue) and basic make-up kit. You may also want to check how the makeup is done here. Have fun, but be careful with applying glue and make-up for any allergic reaction. Do it with adult supervision just to be safe.
