A lot of good and not-so worthwhile things happened to my family this year.

In February, my kids were hospitalized for dengue fever. The only fund we have during that time was the 13th month pay that my husband received from his company. We were saving up that money to pay for the tuition fee when the problem happened.

But God is so good He never let anything bad to happen to my kids. While we were at the hospital, blessings came pouring in. Friends gave us some financial help to which I’m thankful for. I got a lot of assignments from a paid post company and direct earnings from an advertiser who paid a hefty sum for the ad links on my blogs. I’m most thankful for my dearest friend for the DA referral for without it we may not be able to pay some obligations and secure a part for the tuition.

Because of what happened to my kids, I realized that I need to get a health card for my family. Instead of paying cash, I can use the health card to pay for medical expenses. Now I’m thinking of securing a health card or avail cheap term life insurance next year. Like what elders always say, it pays to be ready all the time.

I found my son’s baptism invitation card in my photo box while I was looking for an old picture of mine. The invitation was one of the unsent baptism cards that were hidden somewhere. The cards were supposed to be given to some of our friends at the office, but hubby and I decided to keep the guest list limited to our relatives and few neighbor friends. We never bother to check baptism invitations from invitationbox.com for elaborate invitation designs because we only have a few visitors to give them to. Instead of sending them an invitation, we call or ask them personally.

This is a repost. My husband has not seen his parents for a long time, but he sees to it that he calls them on special occasions. He shares to our kids how his Tatay and *Nanay as parents and how well they taught each one of the eight kids the values of Christian living. They were poor in material possession, but never in spirit. They read the bible as a family and goes to church regularly. My husband even joined and won a Bible Exposition at age 10. No wonder hubby grew up to be a good person. As a dad, hubby is not a strict one. Sometimes he has the tendency to spoil the children. Nevertheless, he sets a good example to our kids by being a responsible person, Dad and husband to me.

I’ve mentioned in my other blog about the visit of our future nephew-in-law in the Philippines this April. My husband’s niece, Mai and her brother will meet her fiancé from Canada. Like Mai’s boyfriend, I’ll be meeting Mai and her brother for the first time. I told my kids jokingly that we have to start practicing our English in preparation for our visitor’s arrival. I’m sure the guy who is a software programmer will not discuss about business intelligence software with me, but if he does, our other niece who works in a software developer company will save the day.

My kids might be confined anytime today (depending on the result of another blood test at the FEU hospital) due to the possibility that they may have dengue fever.

Last night, I called up their pedia and read to her the initial result of their complete blood count and actual platelet count (cbc and apc). Their first blood test was taken after their initial check up at the East Avenue Medical Center yesterday afternoon. The range of their cbc and apc were still within the borderline but enough basis for the pediatrician to declare it’s dengue fever. However, she said the next 12 hours is crucial for the kids if their platelet will improve. Only oresol intake and colorless beverages will keep them from suffering dehydration. Dehydration is usually caused by high grade fever and vomiting. If their condition improves this morning there is no need for confinement.

While I was about to post this, I received a call from hubby that their cbc and apc went down from 158 last night to just 137 for Khalil and 106 for Naomi. Am now waiting for the doctor’s instruction where my kids will be taken. There are two options, FEU and Fairview Gen. I will keep you posted. In the meantime, I’m requesting you all, to please pray from my children…thank you…

Just when I decided to have an eye check up to see if I need to wear prescription glasses, an unexpected expense come up this week and we need to prioritize it. My kids are sick again and we need to bring them to their pediatrician for check up. Both kids are unwell since Monday afternoon and doctors fear they could be afflicted with dengue. Another blood test will be taken tomorrow morning to confirm if it is indeed dengue fever. I told hubby that we should focus on our kids first and ensure that they get the much-needed medical attention. My eye check up can wait but not my kids’ medical needs.

We’re having a post-Christmas dinner at Puregold Supermarket in Fairview.

I hope hubby would ask me the same question one of these days and I would readily say I want a Netbook and if not much to ask an SLR or DSLR camera. They can be as expensive as a pair of diamond stud earrings. But I’m not fond of jewelry although sometimes I wish I have a pair of earrings as stunning as this one.

I want a Netbook because it’s lightweight and I can bring it anywhere. I also want a new camera so I can have professional looking photos for my blog posts.
